Karl Platt on the joy of cycling and his love of the Palatinate

In our “SIGMA Stories” series, we are taking a close look at our brand ambassadors. They are taking us on a journey through time, sharing their successes and glimpses of their everyday lives. We are starting with Karl Platt.

Since the end of his professional career, Platt has remained active in cycling. He races the Masters. Bike races have become very different for him. “It’s just not as stressful. There is no prize to be won. I’m just out there to have fun,” he says.

I am able to really enjoy myself. You go out there in nature, on the trail, and you’re with friends.

That is why he believes that there is no better place for mountain biking in Germany than the Palatinate. This is where he has created his own personal paradise, and it is where we visited him for “SIGMA Stories”. The vineyards, the woods, this place and this environment offer Platt and his family everything they could wish for: bike tours together, evening barbecues, and just time spent together. The Palatinate is a place of rest. But it is also a place where Platt is free to exercise the passion for movement that seems to be part of his DNA.

This is where I learned mountain biking. This is where it all started.

When Platt is riding his favourite trails, he often stops by the SIGMA headquarters. He has been a fixture in the SIGMA family for 14 years and is now investing even more time in this collaboration. “I get to be the very first one to test the equipment. To see what they’ve come up with now,” he says. The principle by which he approaches not only equipment testing, but all facets of life, is: “I don’t see problems – I only see solutions.
